The record shown above comes from the Family Register of St. Cecilia's Roman Catholic Church in Sheldon, New York. The Family Register was recorded around 1849, when St. Cecilia's was established as a regular parish in the Buffalo Archdiocese. Prior to this St. Cecilia's had been a mission parish.
Many, but not all, entries in the book follow a standard pattern. The record for a typical family is entered on two facing pages. The left-hand page contains the parents, their marriage date and place, the names of their parents, the names of their siblings, their birth dates and when they came to America, in that order. The right-hand page lists the names of their children, their dates of birth and where and by whom they were baptized.
The entire Register has been photographed under the egis of the Sheldon Historical Society, 3859 Strykersville Rd., PO Box 122, Strykersville, NY 14145.
