Clarence Greff - about 1921
Clarence Henry Greff was born on November 30, 18732, in Bennington, New York, the first child of Philip Greff and Anna Maria Zehler. Clarence spent his earliest years on the family farm in Bennington, however, about 1881 his family moved to Attica, New York188. Clarence attended grade school and high school in Attica188, graduating from high school there in 1891. Clarence's father had died in 1889, and, soon after his graduation, the family moved to Warsaw, New York189. In succeeding years, Clarence read law and was admitted to the bar in October 1895188. He then associated with John L. Woodworth in the law firm of Woodworth and Greff, a partnership which continued until 1918. After this, Clarence continued practice as an independent attorney188.
On March 18, 1914188, Clarence married Blanche English. Blanche was born on December 13, 1884, in Alliance, Ohio188. The couple made their home in Warsaw, where Clarence continued to practice law. As described in his biography188 and obituary190, Clarence was active in public service. From 1913 to 1916 he served as a trustee of Warsaw, and, in 1915, he represented Allegany, Genesee, and Wyoming counties at the State Constitutional convention. In 1917 he served as president of Warsaw and he was corporate counsel from 1918 to 1925. Finally, in 1921, he was elected to a three-year term as District Attorney for Wyoming County and, in 1924, won re-election to an additional three-year term.
Clarence Greff died on May 18, 1954, in Warsaw, at the age of 80190, and Blanche Greff died on January 13, 1962, in Rochester, New York191. They are buried in Forest Hill Cemetery at Attica, New York. Clarence and Blanche did not have children.
