Josephine Zehler
Josephine C. Zehler was born on April 9, 18792, in Bennington, New York, the third child of Nicholas Zehler and Matilda DeTemple. She grew up there with her family. Josephine's activities and whereabouts is not known until the early 1900's. About 1902, Josephine married William Jacob Breen. William was born at Warsaw, New York, on December 8, 1875160, the son of Moses Breen and Mary Helon.
Following their marriage, William and Josephine lived in St. Louis, Missouri, where their only child was born. Their reason for moving to St. Louis is unknown. William is listed in the 1903 St. Louis City Directory with an occupation of hostler. Apparently he was working is a stable taking care of horses. Their stay in St. Louis, however, was cut short by the death of William on December 9, 1903160, probably from an infectious disease, such as yellow fever. His body was returned to Warsaw, New York, for burial in St. Michael's Cemetery.

After the death of her husband, Josephine returned to Buffalo, New York. In 1910175, she was living in a boarding house on North Division Street and working there as a cook. The whereabouts of her daughter is unknown. On September 18, 191330, Josephine married Frank Milton Smith. Frank was born about 188232, in Wellsville, New York, the son of Clinton Smith and Sarah Kelver. The marriage was performed by Charles H. Smith, a clergyman, who may have been a relative. At the time of their marriage, Frank worked as a motorman and Josephine was still working as a cook.
By 1920176, Frank was working as a fireman at a steel plant and by 1930177, he had advanced to foreman at the steel plant. Frank died in Buffalo on November 2, 193540, and Josephine died on February 2, 196540, from pneumonia following a fall which broke her shoulder.
