Family of Daniel and Matilda Stevens

Matilda Zehler was born in February 1870143, in Sheldon, New York, the third child of Charles Zehler and Mary Backe. Her early years were spent on the family farms in Bennington and Sheldon. At a young age, her family moved to Warsaw, New York, when her father retired from farming. As a young lady, Matilda worked as a maid for the Van Kirk family40.
On April 7, 189040, Matilda married Daniel John Stevens, Jr. Daniel was born in March 1863143, the son of Daniel John Stevens, Sr. and Mary Duschen. Daniel and Marilda initially lived in Warsaw, New York, where Daniel worked as a cooper at a salt works143. By 1910, however, Daniel and Matilda were Rock Glen, a small village in the Town of Gainesville, New York159. The family continued to live in Rock Glen and Daniel pursued his career as a Cooper. Most of the time he worked in the salt works, however, in the Fall he would travel to apple country and build barrels for the harvest40.
Daniel died in October 193240 at Rock Glen, and Matilda died there in September 195740.

| iv. | Hazel Matilda Stevens | Hazel was born August 14, 189818, and she died June 5, 199118. Hazel married Lewis Appleby on July 1, 192250. Lewis was born August 6, 1879,50 the son of Sheldon Stanton Appleby and Mary Etta Hall. He died on March 7, 196150. |
| v. | Charlotte Stevens | Charlotte was born December 25, 190018, and she died in January 197718. Charlotte married Walter Lewis Bush. Lewis was born in 189550, and he died in 195150. |
