Thelma Faulring
Thelma - 5 years old |
Thelma Jean Faulring was born on December 5, 1948, the daughter of Herold and Esther Faulring. Her early schooling began in Boston Elementary School, while Jr. High and High School were in Springville, New York, a 10 mile bus ride. Thelma graduated from Griffith Institute and Central School in 1967. Thelma's mother was the bus driver many of those years.
Shortly after graduating from high school, Thelma started working at New York Telephone Co. in Hamburg. While there she became a Supervisor and then moved up to Operations Manager. After spending many years in Hamburg, she was transferred to Williamsville for a short time and then to Buffalo. Each transfer came with more responsibilities and promotions. She ended her career with the phone company in Dunkirk, New York, where she worked for 10 years. In the spring of 1997, Thelma and other employees were offered nice incentives to retire, so after a successful 29 years with "Ma Bell" she retired at the age of 49.
Thelma - Enjoying Life |
During her time with the phone company, Thelma was also very involved with the Boston Republican Party and was a member of the Boston Republican Committee. In 1988 she was presented the Republican of the Year Award, an honor she was quite proud to receive. She spent over 10 years helping to plan and organize dinner dances, cocktail parties and offering to take charge of decorations, always taking great care to come up with something new each year.
About 1998 Thelma started work at the Boston Town Hall as Secretary to the Boards and was a member of the Zoning and Planning Boards and Conservation Committee. Even though this job was part-time she took her work very seriously and devoted much of her time and energy in learning all she could about the town and how it operated. She became a wealth of knowledge for her co-workers and the citizens of Boston.
