Fourth Generation
Arvella B. Tharnish was born in late 1912 or early 1913, the first child of William Tharnish and Bessie Skinner. In 1915, age two, she was living with her parents at Canisteo, New York29. Subsequently, Arvella was with her parents at Sardinia, New York, in 192030 and at Aurora, New York, in 192531. Then in 1930 Arvella and her mother were living by themselves at Hornell, New York32. Finally, in 1933, the Buffalo City Directory lists Arvella with her mother in a rented room on Duerstein St., Buffalo49. Arvella was working as a hairdresser and her mother as a cook.
On March 12, 1938, Arvella married Emil H. Wahl at North East Pennsylvania50. Emil was born about 1902, at Cheektowaga, New York, the son of Emil Wahl and Emma Nitchka50. Emil had been previously married and received a divorce on February 10, 193850, about a month before his second marriage. Their marriage record gives additional interesting information. Both Emil and Arvella list their residence as Walden Avenue, Cheektowaga, New York, and both list their occupation as Musician50, suggesting a close relationship prior to their marriage. Most surprising, Arvella gave her birthplace as Detroit, Michigan50. No birth record has been found to verify or correct this entry.
After a very short marriage, Emil died in 1838 prior to the death of Arvella on December 29, 1938.
