William Tharnish
William Perry Tharnish was born on October 19, 188721, the second child of Martin Tharnish and Alice Perry. He grew up on the family farms, first in Arcade, New York and later in Sardinia, New York. In late 1909, he married Carrie Vera Weatherlow27,28. Vera was born in October 1889, at Sardinia, New York, the daughter of Edwin Weatherlow and his wife Emma71. William and Vera settled in Sardinia, where William owned a Butcher Shop27. William and Vera had a son, born in December 1910.

Within a couple years after Dudley was born, William apparently left his wife and son and took up with another women. The 1915 New York Census, shows him living in Canisteo, New York, with Bessie E. Skinner and their two children29. William was working as a Milk Dealer29. Bessie was born on December 28, 1891, the daughter of Charles R. Skinner and his wife Buelah22,34.
In 1920, William and Bessie were living on the family farm along with William's brother Clare and Clare's
family30. Clare owned the farm and William was helping with farm work. In 1925, William and Bessie were living in Aurora,
New York, as a farmer31. Then, in 1930, Bessie was living in Hornell, New York, with the two youngest
children32. William and Bessie had separated. In all the Census records, including the 1930 Census, Bessie
is listed as married. In 1933, Bessie was living with her daughter

| iv. | Martin William Tharnish | Martin was born on October 28, 192121, and he died on August 25, 200021. Martin married (1) Patricia A. Shroder, (2) Leda M. Cook and (3) Ruth Ann Ahonen. |
| v. | Wilma Tharnish | Wilma was born on April 1, 192621, and she died on October 11, 200321. |
Little is known about William after he left Bessie. His name does not appear in the U.S. Census of 1940, the latest available. In 1933, he had a son, William, the child of his third wife, Hazel C. Owens. Hazel was born on March 24, 189422, and family members believe she was a common-law wife. On August 27, 1943, Hazel purchased a 59 acre farm in West Falls, Town of Aurora, New York25, and William and Hazel settled on this property for the remainder of their lives. In addition to farming, William had a Water Well Drilling business.
Hazel died on January 6, 197721,22, and William died on April 21, 196821,22.
