Table I:  Early Government Records - The Protocolos

The "Protocolos" is similar to Notary records.  Entries mostly deal with financial or legal transactions, such as land sales, loans, powers-of-attorney and wills, with an occasional court decision.  The nature of these transactions limited use of the Protocolos to individuals with significant wealth who needed to record their transactions and could afford to do so.  Therefore, this list represents only select a portion of the population.

Juan Ygnacio 1845 Liloan Juan Ygnacio, along with others, granted a Power-of-Attorney.  In 1850, he adopted the name Cabajug.
Ambrocio Mariano 1845 Mandaue Listed as Caveza de Barangay.  In 1850, he adopted the name Cabajug.
Ambrocio 1851 Mandaue Recorded part of the will of Maria Estepa, his deceased mother.
Bartolome 1862 Mandaue Granted a Power-of-Attorney to Tomas Senisa (Ceniza) for a land case in Borbon, Cebu.
Felix 1868 Cebu City Received an Power-of-Attorney from Mariano Villarosa, a resident of Carcar, Cebu.
Felix 1868 Cebu City Purchased a house in the Parian from Doña Paula Suyco.
Benito 1868 Mandaue Appears in a land record as a resident of sitio Omapao or Ompao, Mandaue and as "inquilino" (leaseholder) of the Hacienda of the Seminario de San Carlos.
Nazarena 1868 Mandaue Listed as a land owner in Magicay, MandaueCebu.
Nazarena 1869 Mandaue Granted a Power-of-Attorney to her son Manuel Cortes.

1869 Mandaue Recorded her will on two occasions.  Both listed the names parents and children, and one listed her deceased husband.

1869 Mandaue Jancito Andres is named as the father of Navarena Cabahug in her will (see previous entry). The will also names mother as Maria Estefa.
Hilario 1870 Mandaue Sold a house in Mandaue, Cebu, to Juan Climaco.
Ambrocio 1870 Mandaue Listed as a land owner in Mandaue, Cebu, next to the house sold by Hilario Cabajug.
Macaria 1871 Mandaue Listed as a land owner in Ibabao, Mandaue, Cebu.
Nazarena 1871 Mandaue Granted a Power-of-Attorney to Don Pedro Normandia.
Telesforo 1872 Sibulan, Negros Sold land in Casuntigan, Mandaue, Cebu, to Raymundo Oano (Ouano).
Felix 1872 Cebu City Listed as a land owner in Mandaue, Cebu.
Bartolome 1873 Mandaue Bought land in Mandaue, Cebu, from Agustin Sanchez.
Juan 1873 Liloan Granted a Power-of-Attorney to his son Dioncio Cabajug.
