The "Protocolos" is similar to Notary records. Entries mostly deal with financial or legal transactions, such as land sales, loans, powers-of-attorney and wills, with an occasional court decision. The nature of these transactions limited use of the Protocolos to individuals with significant wealth who needed to record their transactions and could afford to do so. Therefore, this list represents only select a portion of the population.
