Early Members of the Perez Family

Entries in the Early Government Records of Cebu

The following table lists entries in the "Protocolos"23 for members of the Perez family who lived in Mandaue.  The Protocolos contains records comparable to notary and court records, such as wills, powers-of-attorney and land sales.  Because of their nature, individuals named in these records were generally prosperous businessmen and leaders in local society.  As a result, the Protocolos only gives a partial picture of the Perez family.  Unfortunately, the records of St. Joseph Catholic Church, which would give a fuller picture of the family, were destroyed during World War II.

The Protocolos cover the years 1818 to 1902, however, only entries beginning in 1850 yield information on the Perez family of Mandaue, since nearly all residents for the Philippines did not have a surname prior to that date.  The original Protocolos documents are in the Philippine National Archives.  Digital images of these records are available at FamilySearch.
