Williams B. Perry was born on October 22, 1823, at Constable, Franklin County, New York, the son of Joseph Norman Perry and Mary Ann274. By 1930, the Perry family had moved to Bennington, New York275 and in 1847, Williams joined with his father to purchased a farm of approximately seventy acres in the Town of Alexander, Genesee County, New York23. Then In 1848, Williams purchaed an additional sixteen and one-half acres adjacent to the farm23. Owen Perkins reports that he divided his time between farming and clerking in his father's store274.
In 1850, Williams was living with his family in Alexander278, and is listed as Supt' Comm' Schools, presumably in Alexander. On December 31, 1851, Williams married Asenath Warren274. Asenath was born on July 19, 1929270, in the Bennington, New York, the daughter of Pomeroy Warren and Harriet Buell. By 1840 her family had moved to Sheldon, New York276, and finally by 1850, they had settled in Attica, New York277. However, at this time, Asenath was in Alexander, with her sister Mary Moulton, who had recently given birth to her first child278. This occasion may have been instrumental in Asenath meeting Williams Perry, who resided in Alexander in 1850278.
Williams and Asenath likely settled in Alexander where he either continued his work with Schools or took up farming. By 1860, however, they were living in Bennington with their first two children and Williams was farming47. In fact, he was in charge of operating the farm of Pomeroy Warren, Asenath's father. This farm was up the hill from the farm of Peter Zehler and it was when Frederick Zehler was working on this farm that he met and fell in love with their daughter, Alice E. Perry.
It is not clear how long Pomeroy and Asenath lived on the Perry farm, since the 1870280 and 1880202 U.S. Census show them residing in Attica, but he may have continued operating the Warren farm. At any rate, Pomeroy continued farming up to his death on October 10, 1893270. Asenath lived for nearly another 24 years, apparently living with her bachelor son Lyman33,279. Asenath died on August 24, 1917270.
